Once again, Pr. Stiegemeyer offers some great advice. Not about the coffee shop. I live across the country from there, and have no idea whether the coffee is good or not. (Since I don’t think there can be “bad coffee”, I assume it is good.) But his advice to get out of the office and work in a public place is good advice. Of course, there are times when a pastor needs to study quietly among his books. For this purpose, a church usually has a pastor’s study. But if you are just doing the various office-work things that being a pastor entails, why not choose a coffee shop with wi-fi, and pull out your notebook, netbook, i-pad, i-phone or whatever?
Of course, for those of us who live in small towns (which don’t have wi-fi coffee shops), and who also only own a desktop, this wouldn’t work exactly like he says. But there are other ways of getting out among your people. Find a nice spot to read a book, go get coffee at the local truck stop, etc. As he says:
I run into more of my parishioners at local cafes and businesses than I do sitting in my office.
True. So find a way to hang out there, when possible.
