The congregation that I serve has a Second Wednesday evening service each month. This month it fell during the week of Easter. The gospel reading for Wednesday of Easter week is Jesus appearance to the disciples in Galilee, and the miraculous catch of fish. I had a neat idea, but I believe the sermon was ultimately a failure. Why do I think that? A picture is worth a thousand words. And a picture of words? Well, that would be priceless. So here is the Wordle for the midweek sermon:
See the problem? Although it was about Peter being forgiven by Jesus, the picture shows that it wasn’t about primarily about Jesus, it was about Peter. And that’s not how it should be. Even when it isn’t about Jesus, it needs to be about him. And this time, it really was about someone else.
